About Me / Bio

About Me
My name is Ruben and I am from Nebraska.  I am part of the youth organization of AJEC in the Rocky Mountains Region, part of the Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal M.I. I have been playing piano since around 2008 or 2009 and have been part of the worship group at my church ever since. It hasn’t been an easy road but the key to success is to not give up and keep going no matter what.  God has been my support and my strength, without him I would not be where I am today.

How I Started Playing

Prior to the day I first played a note on the piano, I had no musical background. My passion was sports, specifically soccer.  I had no ipod, no mp3, music was just not my interest.  My brother and dad have always loved music. My younger brother was in orchestras, choirs, and all sorts of musicals in school. He was practicing on an old, dirty, dusty, untuned piano which I still have, getting melodies to songs for his violin and cello. I was very curious and saw him playing melodies and I wanted to try. I tried and I wanted to play Mary Had A Little Lamb right, so I kept trying. I noticed several patterns and it somehow became a hobby of mine. I later found a book with notes of Inspiracion Llamada Final and started learning the notes and chords. I put the songs on YouTube and played along with the songs at the same time. To me, that I did not like music at all, consider it a miracle that I learned. I really had nobody to teach me. Later on, Guitar, Bass, and Drums became so easy to play. But today, my main instrument is the piano, which I still play at church.

How I Started This Project
The council my church belongs to is divided into regions and districts. Districts being the states, in which my state has several churches.  In reality, there are very few musicians, and probably I am the only pianist here.  Several people from other churches from other towns wanted to learn, but they live hours away from here.  It seemed like a heavy task and my solution was to use the internet as a tool to accomplish this.  I started thinking, and realized that there were so many others who perhaps were in the same situation who wanted to learn. So I decided to make it available to everybody who are willing to do it for God.
